The Wishful Lamb - Baby Love

I completely forgot about The Whishful Lamb's photo challenge, but when I saw the theme I knew exactly which photo to submit. I think I shared this photo already but think it fits the theme perfectly. This is my wonderful friend Erin's little girl Aubrey, and her big brother Brady. She wanted Brady to get in some photos, but he did not want to cooperate for long, luckily we were able to get this shot!

Pixel Perfect - Before and After

I have been lagging in challenges this week, Monday holiday killed me - although I am not complaining about having the day off! I took this photo at my sister and brother-in-laws house this past weekend. We headed over there after my nephews birthday party to grill some hamburgers. Him and my dad, his Papi, and I went outside to see the "fan" (the A/C) and saw this little guy crawling up the side of the house. What little boy is not interested in bugs? So here is Evan's little birthday friend

Black & White Wednesday - Happy Birthday

This whole having Monday off is throwing me way off!
This past weekend on top of my husband and I being in a wedding we celebrated my nephews 2nd birthday - cannot believe he is already 2, or in his words "I be 2!" My sister asked if I could come to his party to take some photos and of course I could not say no. I snapped this photo when his grandma (his dad's mom) was leaving to meet us at his house to continue the party. I think Evan was more interested in the sucker, but I think this turned out really cute.

Eye Was a Winner

The past 2 weeks have been great for challenges. I also submitted my photos for the August 2010 Photo Hunt, and I was very pleased with my submissions. You can look at my submissions here - August 2010 Photo Hunt - Submissions. I spent a lot of time looking at everyone's entries - there are going to be some tough choices to make for the voting! I also headed over to The Wishful Lamb's blog yesterday and saw that I got 2nd place for my "Eye" shot of our cat Bentley. I am sure he will be super excited that his photo won a challenge.

Now onto 5 Question Friday, I missed last weeks, so here are my answers for this week

ONE. What do you do when you have time to yourself?
I love to lounge and watch TV - especially on a rainy day, edit and take photos, play sports, or go shopping

TWO. When you look out your kitchen window, what do you see?
Hmmm we do not have a window in our kitchen, but our kitchen does face our living room window, so I see our hideous backyard that needs to be landscaped

THREE. Who/What would you want to be reincarnated as?
I think I would want to be reincarnated to either a dolphin or a lion/tiger

FOUR. What is your biggest pet peeve about other people's kids?
I have no children, BUT when I was a lifeguard it drove me absolutely nuts when parents assumed that we were their babysitters and they could just let their children run around everywhere, and jump in the pool, etc...yes I was aware that we were there to guard lives, but you need to stay with your child. I had an instance where this grandmother (we compared her to the oh so tan lady from Something About Mary) tied a noodle (you know those floaty things) around her grandsons waist she went to go get her tan on and he ran and jumped in, and shocker the "life vest" ie the noodle, came of and he started drowning. I saved him and didn't get a thank you....ok that was a tiny bit of a tangent but you get the idea

FIVE. Regular or Diet soda?
I don't drink sodas a whole lot, but REGULAR please, bleh to the diet

I have seen a few new faces, or bloggers? come to my blog, and I hope you have enjoyed it! I am ready for this wekend to start - we are celebrating my nephews 2nd birthday, and my husband and I are in a wedding on Sunday. Happy Labor Day weekend!

August 2010 Photo Hunt Challenge - Submission Time!

I cannot believe August is over! I participated in my first photo hunt challenge and after 4 weeks our submissions are finally due. I am excited to show you my interpretations of all 20 themes, some of which I have posted already...so here they are

1. Flag that represents me - This is the Cuban flag, my father was born and raised there and came to the U.S. right after Castro took over, being Cuban is a big part of my heritage - the other half of me is Cajun - and I would not have it any other way
Emily - flag

2. Something Comfortable - Our cat Bentley thinks this is the most comfortable spot in the house, which is buried in the pile of clean clothes before I {get to} fold them
Emily - Comfortable

3. Something In Season - The sport me and my husband agree on, baseball! We love it, we love the atmosphere, and love going to games. I snapped this photo when we were walking in to the game a couple weeks ago
Emily - In Season

4. Feet - My friends newborn Caleb - and the cutest shoes
Emily - Feet

5. Repetition - The seats at the baseball game
Emily - repetition

6. Culture/Ethnicity - I was originally going to use the Cuban flag as this entry but got the theme mixed up, but I think this still works. I was born and raised in Texas so I may have the Cuban/Cajun background but I am a Texas girl
Emily - culture

7. Contrast - OK I thought outside the box on this one, and instead of using a black and white photo or something similar to show contrast, I decided to use peanut butter and jelly, because like a black and white photo they are polar opposites, but work well together
Emily - contrast

8. An Indulgence - What is better than brownies and chocolate covered strawberries??
Emily - Indulgence

9. Macro/Closeup - I think this photo explains itself, and I love that the flower reminds me  of a Georgia O'Keefe painting
Emily - macro

10. Something Masculine - My husband said grilling cannot be done without having a beer
Nikon 019

11. Something Feminine - These were the shoes I wore on my wedding day...LOVE
Emily - Something Feminine

12. Light - One of my favorite places - This is one of my archived photos, taken in July 2010. I just was not happy with the original photo I was going to use
Emily - Light

13. Eco-Friendly - I had a hard time with this one, but here is what I came up with. Everyone needs to think green, and this sign is proudly displayed at the Astros ballpark. I do love that the Pirates player in the bullpen looks like he is actually thinking though
Emily - eco

14. Business - I went to the outlet malls this past weekend and thought this would be the perfect opportunity to capture a business sign
Emily - Business

15. Arrow - Me and My husbands favorite BBQ place
Emily-Arrow

16. Something Wet - Nothing cuter than a wet "mohawk do" on my nephew
Emily - Something Wet

17. Something Dry - My friend and I found these barrels of hay a couple weeks ago and thought that it was pretty fitting for this theme
Emily - Something Dry

18. Butterflies - Well, my original photo for this did not turn out, so I had to get a little creative. Not exactly a real butterfly but it's creative right? I believe I saw 1 actual butterfly this whole month, I don't think they are wanting to come out in the 108 degree heat we are having in Texas...
Emily - butterfly

19. Heart Shaped Clouds - I had the hardest time finding a heart shaped cloud, when I did see them I didn't have my camera. So I came up with this idea
Emily - heart cloud

20. Strength - My husband HAD to have these kettle bell weights for Christmas so I thought they fit this theme perfectly
Emily - strength

I hope you enjoyed all my entries, I had a good time coming up with ideas and challenging myself more. I will definitely do this challenge again. Head on over to the August 2010 Photo Challenge to see all of the other entries!

Black and White Wednesday - Work and Play

I am submitting this photo for my Black and White Wednesday photo at The Long Road to China and my "Work and Play" photo for the In a Yellow House challenge being hosted by Ashley at Ramblings and Photos. I took this photo a couple weeks ago when my new job offered me the company seats at the Astros game, I will most likely NEVER turn down Astros tickets. I snapped this photo after the Astros win, and it has one of my all time favorite players in it - Jeff Bagwell. I grew up watching him and Craig Biggio and really excited he is now coaching the boys.

The Wishful Lamb - Eyes Like Yours

This week the theme at The Wishful Lamb is all about the eyes. I actually did not know if I had a photo to enter, but I was trying to get some of Bentley sleeping in our pile of (clean) clothes for one of my submissions for the August 2010 Photo Challenge, but he was not cooperating, instead we started to play a game of fetch - you can see the ball by his paw, it was actually stuck to his nail and he couldn't get it off...silly cat.
