If You Really Knew Me...

I saw the blogstar post last month, as well as the "If you really knew me..." posts flying around so I thought I would link up and use the If you knew me for you to get to know me a bit.

If you really knew me you would know that…

My sister and I are almost 12 years apart in age, she is 41 and I am 30…She graduated High School the same year I graduated Kindergarten

I went to private school from pre-k to 8^th grade – uniform and all

I played 3 sports in high school – Volleyball, Soccer and Swimming. I made the softball team but broke my arm playing soccer…I also ran in one track meet

I sold a painting in the Galveston County Fair and Rodeo, the name of it was “Kitty Get Your Gun”

My childhood BFF and I went to the Texas State history fair for our project on Cuba

I also won "Best in Show" for my Science Fair Projects in grade school, I promise my engineering dad did not help at all = )

My dad is from Cuba, born and raised until he was 18 came here after Castro took over went to college in Louisiana and met my mom there – married 48 years!

Which makes me half Cuban and half Cajun, complete with a quick temper and all

I got in a car accident with a guy who had to read his name off his shirt

I worked at Walt Disney World after college – Best. Experience. Ever.

I was a lifeguard at Disney, and for 6 years total.

I am terrified of Doctors, like family doctors. Send me to the dentist instead please.

I only needed 3 hours of a math to graduate college - it took me 3 tries

I took piano for 8 years, won 2 gold cups and I could never really read music

I went to a small college in West Texas on a soccer scholarship, it was in the middle of nowhere but I met the best people

Neither my hubs nor I have any student loans to pay off – I am SO thankful for this

We were also friends for 4 years before we started dating

I was a cheerleader at my private school…this is true

My first time trying Chinese/Asian whatever food was when I was 24, and it was PF Changs so that does not really count….

I have been a bridesmaid 7 times, 3 of those times were Maid of Honor duties, I was also an adorable flower girl twice - what can I say I am an amazing friend = )

I am so thankful for all of the people that I have met and the opportunities that I have been given through photography, it has truly been a blessing

I kicked my first college roommate out of our dorm. It was a BAD experience y'all, she had to go

And as a result of that I got a warrant put out for my arrest. True Story.

My BFF from college and I lived together for 2 years and never got in a fight, 7 years later this statement still proves true

I have had some really random stuff happen to me that I can’t possibly make up, but maybe that will be a post for later. Hope you have enjoyed reading these tid bits about me and follow along as I try and be a better blogger!

Happy Olympics!

Happy Opening Day!

 The Olympics are probably one of my favorite things to watch. I do prefer the Summer over the Winter since I like so many more of the events but it is still an amazing time in the world of sports.

We even had an Olympic themed party for the last Summer Olympics

My favorite things to watch are definitely Soccer, Swimming, Gymnastics, and Beach Volleyball

The US Women’s National Soccer team already notched it’s first win – GO USA! I am really hoping they take gold especially after the heartbreaking loss in the finals of the World Cup last year.

Really pulling for Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh to get a third gold medal in beach volleyball as well.

My husband will be sucked into Tennis and we both will of course watch the other sports but those are definitely top on our list. I already have the schedule pulled up and want to get the DVR set so I don’t miss anything – especially medal rounds!

Also with this being Michael Phelps’ last Olympics I am really excited to see how many medals he rakes in, and hello Mr. Ryan Lochte I will definitely be watching you.

 

I also love seeing our medal count rise each day – our country has some amazing athletes!

My Life in Sports

When the Olympics come around I always tend to look back at all the sports I did and wonder what if...I mean who hasn't watched the Olympics and wondered what it is like to be in their shoes? I do it all the time...

 I have been playing sports for as long as I can remember, my first sport was soccer and I started at the young age of 4. I was always the kid that wanted to be outside - riding my bike, playing in the dirt, being in the pool - just loved being outdoors. There was never a time that I did not enjoy sports - actually I take that back, my college soccer coach was a complete prick, and an awful coach but other than that my experiences have always been pretty great. 

After a few years of soccer my parents decided to put me into competitive swimming - I quickly started to love that sport as well. Every summer was filled with 8AM practices and heading out at 6AM for Saturday swim meets - it was such a fun time. I was even a top state ranked swimmer - bring it on Mr. Phelps!

 As I got older my friends all started playing softball but my parents refused because they hated doing fundraisers and the parents could get quite rude, I finally convinced them and played for about 4 years, up until my freshman year of high school. Tried out made the team, broke my arm playing soccer – end softball career here.

I think my love of volleyball started while I was in the 6^th grade – my private school had sports and I liked to stay busy and everyone made the team so why not. Ended up really liking that and tried out my freshman year of high school made it and ended up playing varsity for 3 years. I was convinced I was going to play a sport in college and made that a reality, played 2 years then finished college out. I still play to this day – 26 years later. 

 ok you try doing an over hand serve in the mud...

I did try my hand at tennis since practice started right after swim team but I never understood the scoring and I turned out not being the next Serina Williams.

My life was not all about sports; I did take dancing for 5 years…then quit because I liked soccer better.

My husband and I play softball together too and I am glad that in my ripe old age of 30 I can still enjoy the sports that have been a part of me for so long. 

Sports have always been a huge part of my life and I am glad they still are. Is there anything in your life that is like that for you?

Texas Tuesday Ya'll

I am back for Texas Tuesday and since I talked about the Rivers in my first Texas Tuesday post I am going to move down the street and talk about Gruene.

Every year when we go to the river we try and hit up a concert at Gruene Hall and/or go to the Gristmill. Gruene – one of Texas’ oldest dance halls is definitely an experience - nothing compares to seeing some good live Texas Country in that little hall…oh that also has NO A/C – it’s all about the memories people!

The Gristmill located right next door is a restaurant built out of an old cotton mill. We definitely go here every time we have a river trip because no river trip is complete with out their Sangria – served in a mason jar of course and their amazeballs Chicken Fried Steak. ß---- this is the one time a year I generally eat chicken fried steak too, its that good.

There are also a few little wineries around town that are in walking distance. We went to one last year – Winery on the Green, and for $5 yes only $5 you can try I think it was 4 different wines of your choice. We did a few of their fruit infused wines which were really good and even bought some bottles. All fairly priced – and I do mean that, I am a cheap wine drinker they were all mostly $15 and under. We bought the Pomegranate Wildberry ($10.95) and the Blueberry Shiraz ($10.95). I would love to go back and do the winemaking class that they have too.

 

 If you need a break from the river or just driving through the hill country for a visit these places are a must!

Dear Friday

  

Dear Crossfit: I hope you do not kill me tonight, and if you don’t I hope I can at least walk tomorrow.

Dear Traffic This Week: You have made me insane, absolutely INSANE, I know the weather was to blame but you still were awful, we are in a fight.

Dear Cheesecake Factory: Your Tuxedo cheesecake is the most amazing thing ever and I am completely OK with the 14 million calories that you most likely contain.

Dear Hubs: I am so happy you like you birthday presents, I know you will have an amazing time in Denver and let’s face it I am excited to have the house to myself….kidding….ok maybe not…love you!            

Dear Hobby Lobby: The moment you put your Christmas décor on sale I will be all over it, I don’t even care that it is July.

 Dear Hair: You are getting entirely too long, I thought I liked you long but in fact I think I am a short hair person, bangs on the other hand I have actually not missed you, you shall stay long.

Dear Sunday: Please do not rain, I have a Dynamo game to get to.

Random Fun Fact Friday: Did you know that there are 3 Friday the 13^th this year?

It's OK

…that it took me nearly 2 hours to get to work yesterday AND today…ok it’s really NOT ok I just thought you should know that my drive has royally SUCKED the past 2 days.

…that I have watched every single season of the Real World no matter how bad each season has gotten

…that I may die when we start crossfit on Friday

  …that I am OK with starting crossfit, but I am NOT ok with cutting out dairy and cheese, to follow this paleo diet crap - this part will not happen.

…that hubs thinks I am not putting my full effort into our crossfit journey, I still think I am I just refuse to follow a crazy diet, I still plan to workout duh. I will monitor my cheese intake and maybe my bowl of ice-cream will get smaller, that is good enough

…that I balked at the idea of trying a new recipe for dinner the other night

…and that I begrudgingly agreed with Brad that the dinner he chose was actually very tasty

For the record the recipe was Pork Chop with Apple and Onion tell me you would not have had some reservations about eating that???
